During the pandemic, the depth of the digital divide became even more apparent in all aspects of life, from education to healthcare. The increased attention to, and importance of, audio-only telehealth policies in particular is inherently connected to barriers to high-quality internet and digital devices necessary to utilize other telehealth modalities. To properly address these digital equity concerns additional funding and engagement across an expanding group of stakeholders and agencies has increased and numerous broadband initiatives and investments have been made over the past couple of years.
As the dog days of summer begin to wind down, we at CCHP would like to highlight some upcoming important dates and deadlines to note in the area of telehealth policy. It is important to mention that this newsletter will only cover federal events, so be sure to also check-in with CCHP’s Legislative Tracker to learn about all telehealth related state bills and regulations. Earlier this year, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a series of fact sheets with guidance that detailed the status of temporary telehealth COVID-19 policies after the Public Health Emergency (PHE) ended on May 11, 2023. The majority of these fact sheets were released in February but since that time there have been subsequent updates and in some cases changes to what was originally noted in the original versions. CCHP is providing an update to our previously released At-A-Glance chart for this information. Please note that the information in the chart is current through July 25, 2023.
