Remote Patient Monitoring

POLICY

Remote client monitoring means the use of electronic information and communication technology to collect personal health information and medical data from a client at an originating site that is transmitted to a healthcare provider at a distant site for use in the treatment and management of medical conditions that require frequent monitoring.

Patient-Led Arkansas Shared Savings Entity (PASSE) Program

Virtual and Home Visit Provider Services: Virtual provider services may use various evidence-based and innovative independence at-home strategies. They may include the provision of on-going care management, remote telehealth monitoring and consultation, face to face or through the use secure web-based communication and mobile telemonitoring technologies to remotely monitor and evaluate the patient’s functional and health status.

The Arkansas Medicaid Program shall provide coverage and reimbursement for self-measurement blood pressure monitoring services for pregnant women and postpartum women.

Self-measurement blood pressure monitoring services shall include:

  • Validated blood pressure monitoring devices, such as a blood pressure cuff and replacement cuffs, as medically necessary, to diagnose or treat hypertension;
  • Patient education and training on the set-up and use of a self-measurement blood pressure measurement device that is validated for clinical accuracy, device calibration, and the procedure for obtaining self12 measurement readings; and
  • Collection of data reports by the patient or caregiver for submission to a healthcare provider to communicate blood pressure readings and create or modify treatment plans.

OTHER RESTRICTIONS

As previously communicated, Arkansas Medicaid is updating the billing processes for diabetic supplies including Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs), which will be changing to a pharmacy claim type submission by both pharmacies and DME providers. The official start date is 8/1/2024 for both DME providers and pharmacy providers.
